Teen Relationships & Family Guidance
Fear can make families react fast. Trust helps families respond wisely.
01

Start with safety, not punishment

Understand age, context, consent, pressure, secrecy, online contact and any power imbalance before deciding what needs to happen next.

02

Keep the door open

A teenager who expects humiliation or violence is more likely to hide information. Calm boundaries and continued access to a trusted adult protect communication.

03

Set clear boundaries

Discuss age-appropriate rules around meetings, online contact, privacy, school, sexual safety, respect and family expectations without shaming the young person.

04

Parent + teen pathway

Sessions can include parents alone, the teenager alone where appropriate and safe, or family sessions focused on rebuilding trust and agreements.

How support can work

This pathway is educational and relational, not a substitute for clinical, legal or safeguarding services. If there is coercion, abuse, exploitation, self-harm risk or an adult/minor power imbalance, involve appropriate qualified authorities or professionals promptly.
